Girl Scout Week

Sweetpea has been a Girl Scout for 2 years now - ever since she was old enough to start. And on a regular basis she tells me "I want to be a Girl Scout forever".
She has been having so much fun and has made some really good friends. Not to mention that it is teaching her life lessons as well and how to be a great person in the community.
I think it's one of the best things I could have introduced her to! And I really hope she does stick with it to the end.

This year, Girl Scouting is celebrating it's 98th year!

The following was sent to me from Girl Scouts of West Central Florida

Girl Scout Week ~ March 7th - March 14th

Being a Girl Scout means being part of a worldwide organization that builds lea
dership skills by providing girls with opportunities to discover their interests, connect with others and take action in the world around them.
This Friday, March 12, we celebrate 98 years of Girl Scouting!
Some fun facts about Girl Scout Week:
  • Girl Scout Week is celebrated each March, starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday, and it always includes the Girl Scout Birthday, March 12. Girl Scout Week 2010 is March 7-14, with Girl Scouts' 98th birthday celebrated on Friday, March 12.
  • It all started when Juliette Gordon Low made her historic telephone call to a friend (a distant cousin), saying, "I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight!"
  • The first Girl Scout meeting was held on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Ga.
  • Girl Scout Week is a great time to reconnect, join, volunteer or donate to Girl Scouts of West Central Florida. "Make the World a Better Place" isn't just part of the Girl Scout mission statement. It's a real and lasting commitment that will continue to make Girl Scouting relevant for the next 98 years and beyond.
Locally, GSWCF partnered with Stiles Property Management - in
honor of GS week, the top of the SunTrust building in downtown Tampa will be lit green in the evening and overnight hours the entire week! We have also reached out to several government officials across our eight-county jurisdiction asking them to proclaim this Girl Scout Week. For more information on Girl Scout Week, and to see resources made available in the March issue of GS Express, please visit our website.

Happy 98th Birthday to the Girl Scout organization! Here's to at least another 98 more!
